COSTECH empowers journalists to write Science research articles

The Commission for Science and Technology COSTECH has brought together journalists and researchers in the country with the aim of empowering them to reach out to consumers in an easy way through the media.

Speaking at the opening of the training held in Dodoma, the Director of Knowledge Management from COSTECH Dr. Philibert Luhunga said the aim is to see the science technology developed by researchers reach the people or consumers in simple language.

"The purpose of bringing them together is for the various studies conducted by these researchers to reach the public easily because the studies are in the Language of Science, but if the research is presented to the public through the media it is easy to understand by consumers of the studies" said Dr. Luhunga.

He urged journalists to regularly write information about Science, especially studies conducted by our experts so that the public can benefit from the research conducted by our experts.

He said especially in this period the country has identified itself as an industrial country. Local technologies are very important for the development of the nation so that as a country we can achieve the goal of becoming an industrial country.

He noted that they have already conducted similar seminars in the regions of Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Mtwara and Unguja and in those areas there have been positive results for writers to have a greater awareness of reporting and writing news of various research.

"Wherever we have conducted such seminars there has been a great awareness of reporting scientific and research information that has helped save lives, especially climate studies for the eastern region," he said.

He also advised the public to continue to monitor scientific research information in various fields and not to hesitate to contact the relevant authorities when they see scientific changes in their areas.

For his part, the Director of TARI Makutupora Center Dr. Cornel Masawe said journalists are important people in achieving the dissemination of scientific research to reach the target audience of such studies.

He said on the other hand TARI has seventeen (17) centers across the country that research the seeds of various crops and have been producing different technologies of agricultural seeds that can benefit farmers in the country.

He noted that in the beginning they used to use the 88th day to announce their studies which was held once a year but now they have opened offices in all regions in the country in the 88 exhibition offices and the centers will be open all day to serve farmers.
