Google boycotts Uganda's ban on Bobi Wine's Youtube

The US company, Google, has demanded that the Ugandan government file a lawsuit against the Youtube channel.

The Ugandan government, through its Communications Authority (UCC), wrote to Google demanding that the company shut down the Youtube channel Ghetto TV and 13 others for allegedly violating ethics and violating the country's broadcasting laws.

GhettoTV and several other stations, are affiliated with the National Unity Platform, of the presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi popular Bobi Wine.

According to Ugandan media, Google's chief communications officer for Africa, Dorothy Ooko, has stated that the company cannot shut down the channels simply because the government has demanded it.

"It is very difficult to just remove the station because the government wants the station removed from You tube. We always follow the law, but it must be an order from the court. Letters only show his UCC has submitted to the embassy. It is not a court order, ”Oooko said.
